9: Jessica Doyle-Mekkes – Give Women The Mic (Teaching Women How to Speak Up)
Jessica Doyle-Mekkes, upcoming author and Head of Musical Theatre at ECU, discusses her work in helping women find their voice in male-dominated industries. She dives into her background of musical theatre, performing and living abroad, dealing with the entertainment industry, and navigating the transition out of being a full-time performer. She highlights some of the unique challenges women face in communication, such as microphone bias and societal expectations, and offers advice on how to overcome them. She also discusses her upcoming book (out October 2023), "I'm Speaking," which aims to empower women to use their voices fearlessly.
